Brunt Work Boots Review: The Marin

When it comes to working on the job site, a dependable and comfortable pair of work boots can make all the difference. Enter my review of Brunt Workwear and their latest offering, The Marin work boots.

As an electrician, or anyone in the trades, your feet are your foundation, and you need a pair of boots that can withstand the rigors of your daily work while keeping you comfortable and supported.

In this review of Brunt Workwear’s, The Marin, I’ll be sharing my thoughts and experiences with these boots, including their design, features, and overall performance on the job. But before I dive into the details, take a look at my video review below to get a sneak peek of what to expect from The Marin work boots.

Who is Brunt and What Do They Offer?

Right up front, Brunt set out to lower costs by offering workwear online directly to consumers. According to the founder and CEO, Eric Girouard, Brunt Workwear started in 2020. Eric has lots of buddies in the trades and heard their common complaints. He set out to fix their biggest grievances with boots and workwear in general. Comfort was a considerable priority.

Brunt Work Boots Review: The Marin

I’m happy to share what I discovered when I held The Marin in my hands for the first time.

The Leather

The waterproof leather is quite beautiful if you’ll allow an electrician to use that descriptive term. It actually has triple-layer waterproofing.

This leather is full-grain!

Full-grain is considered the best quality. It still has its’ natural marks and imperfections which I consider beautiful. Hence the word above.

This type of leather is more durable and reliable because the grain hasn’t been removed by sanding or buffing. I fully expect the leather to not easily wear down.

I found it to be smooth and constructed well. These boots felt very sturdy in my hands.

The brown color is perfect in my opinion. I might try a little leather conditioner which typically darkens it. I like that rich brown look as well.

The Style and Key Features

I’m using The Marin 6″ soft-toe work boot in this review. The Marin also comes in:

  • 6″ composite toe
  • 8″ soft-toe
  • 8″ composite toe

Features worth noting:

  • Electrical Hazard Rated
  • Meets ASTM F2892-18 Standards
  • Slip and Oil Resistant
  • Shock-absorbing midsole
  • Adjustable fit

The inside of the boot has a mesh lining. I find it to be a well-constructed material and gives breathability.

There are 4 pass-through lace holders and two speed hooks at the top. Speed hooks are the way to go when it comes to workboots. They made the boots that much easier to pull on and off.

The Adjustable Fit

I received my typical size of 9.5 and they fit perfectly.

If you’re boots feel snug, The Marin has a gray insert below the insole that is removable to provide a relaxed EE fit. I left the gray insert in my boots because they fit ideally right out of the box.

Durability and Comfort

The Marin has a solid feel in my hands and the weight is nice. Heavy enough to sense the construction value, but not so heavy that you’re feet are carrying around extra weight all day. Single boot weight for size 9 is 756 grams/1.66 pounds.

Double stitching around the back and upper sides is brown to match the leather. The white stitching around the top foot/toe area gives a nice contrast that I find appealing. The stitching is tight, uniform, and done with perfection.

Shock-absorbing midsoles are a must in the trades, and these boots have them. Thanks, Brunt!

The treads are oil and slip resistant and I haven’t had any problems with slipping thus far.

The rubber-skinned sole is attached by cement construction. This makes the boot more flexible and comfortable from the get-go. Keep in mind that it prevents the ability to resole the boots. To be honest, I wear boots hard. By the time my soles need to be replaced, the boot is on its’ last leg as well.

And, as I’m learning from years of wearing boots, leather likes to stay protected and pliable to avoid damaging cracks. Brunt has its own leather conditioner that I’m tempted to try on these boots.

I replaced a pair of older soles once on a different brand and I don’t plan on doing it again. The cost was pretty steep. I regretted spending the money to put new soles on boot leather that was well past its’ prime. Others may feel differently, but that’s just my 2 cents.
